Dr Sanjeev Gupta

Expertise

Dr Sanjeev Gupta specialises in surgery of the hip and knee, including hip replacement, knee replacement and arthroscopic knee surgery. Also, as a Trauma Surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he is heavily involved in the management of complex trauma, and subsequent reconstructive surgery.

Dr Gupta graduated from the University of Sydney in 1999, and completed his Orthopaedic Training in Sydney. Following this, he completed multiple subspecialty Orthopaedic Fellowships at world leading institutions. He has trained at the Hospital for Special Surgery (New York, ranked #1 for Orthopaedics in USA), at Harvard (Boston, USA) and John Hopkins and Mercy Hospitals (Baltimore, USA). He has spent many years learning from some of the top surgeons in the world.

Dr Gupta is also fellowship trained in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He is involved in the treatment of both recreational and elite athletes, with the aim of restoring pain-free function and return to competitive sports in a timely manner.

Teaching

Dr Gupta is actively involved in Medical Student, Orthopaedic Registrar and Fellowship Training. He is currently the Co-Director of the NSW Registrar Training Program, and is part of the Federal Training Committee for the Australian Orthopaedic Training Program.

Dr Gupta is a faculty member of the AO Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation that is responsible for the teaching of Trauma Surgery worldwide. As an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at RPA, he is responsible for the management of complex major trauma, and secondary reconstructions.

He regularly travels overseas as an International Guest Speaker. He has been an invited speaker to many international meetings, and frequently travels to underdeveloped countries to teach. Dr Gupta is also a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and has co-authored numerous clinical research publications.

Personal

On a personal note, Dr Gupta is married, with 2 children. He enjoys skiing, golf, and tennis. He has had a long involvement with Sydney University Hockey, having previously played First Grade, and now enjoying time in the Veterans Competition.
